The Texas murder horror show doesn’t seem like it has much to do with our problems in Oakland, but there’s a connection. It may sound weird, but the National Rifle Association and our own woke “defund the police” crowd have more in common than either side will admit. Let me explain.
Haters gotta hate
You couldn’t find more virulent cop haters in Oakland than these two: Cat Brooks (of the infamous Police Anti-Terror Project) and Rashidah Grinage (of the Coalition for Police Accountability, whose lies I wrote about last week).
CBO Endorsements for the June 2022 Primary
Below are CBO's endorsements in the June 7th primary. We have chosen these carefully and with special consideration towards who and what will be best for Oakland, especially with regards to reducing crime, increasing public safety, and enforcing Oakland's encampment laws. We haven’t endorsed candidates in each category on the ballot, many of which are more or less irrelevant to our concerns. Please vote!
We can do better than Sheng Thao
I did a little retailing politicking yesterday with Seneca Scott, or I should say he did the politicking and I was just his sidekick. We walked around the Lake Merritt-Uptown neighborhood and Seneca, with his green business cards, stopped almost everyone we passed, announced he’s running for Mayor, gave them a card and—if they were interested—stopped and chatted with them.
Is it racism if it comes from a Black columnist?
Justin Phillips writes a weekly op-ed column on Black issues in the San Francisco Chronicle. He’s one of those types who sees racism everywhere. He doesn’t pretend to be objective, and he doesn’t have to. What he does isn’t journalism, it’s opinionating, and that’s okay with me. But that doesn’t stop me from challenging him.
