Maybe Dan Kalb meant well when he objected to a bill that would have made watching a sideshow a misdemeanor. Kalb instead would let spectators off the hook. But he’s profoundly wrong. The reason we don’t want idiots watching sideshows is because the sideshow drivers thrive on their attention. If there was no crowd cheering them on, sideshows would dry up like our hills in summer.

When I call Carroll Fife a dangerous radical whose thinking process is so extreme that it puts all of us in danger, I refer to things like her “Black New Deal” proposal, which, in the final analysis, is little more than a vehicle to blackmail the City of Oakland for “reparations” money.

How angry are Californians with homelessness and encampments? Angry enough that some of them are saying the only solution may be to let the most criminal elements among them “die.”

Recount Mayor’s Election? Not So Fast

Hopes that mayor-elect Sheng Thao’s razor-thin victory over Loren Taylor might be subject to a recount due to complaints from the local NAACP chapter appear to have been dashed, as the $100,000 for such a step hasn’t been found, and the Alameda County Registrar of Voters has already certified the election.
