Brooks endorses call for violent revolution

I wrote yesterday that some people in Oakland are calling for a revolution. Revolutions, let’s remember, are inherently violent. In our own American Revolution, nearly 7,000 Americans were killed, the equivalent of 93,000 today. When you make a revolution, the system you’re trying to overthrow fights back. That’s when things get nasty. Each side tries to kill the other. Civilians are caught in the crossfire. And revolutions can escalate. The Russian Revolution grew into a world crisis whose repercussions continue to be felt. Revolutions are not a good thing. So why are some on the Left in Oakland calling for one?

Wood Street situation pretty chaotic. We'll find out more tomorrow

The remnants of that horrible sprawl of encampments at Wood Street might finally be cleared—we hope—following Judge Orrick’s [reluctant] decision to allow Oakland to evict the 60 or so people who still squat there. Orrick—the same judge who has his boot on the neck of the Oakland Police Department and appears likely to keep it there—made it clear he personally didn’t want to make that particular decision. He wanted the homeless people to stay in Wood Street. But public pressure—and, perhaps, his own conscience—proved too much, and he yielded.
