Later today, I’ll drop off a $500 check for Save Alameda For Everyone (SAFE), the organization sponsoring the recall of Pamela Price. Headquarters is Carl Chan’s office at the Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce. Carl is the driving force behind her recall.
Will someone tell me why we can’t get this freak off the streets?
I was walking back from the gym yesterday along Grand Avenue, approaching the big intersection at Harrison Street, when I saw this guy whom I’ve seen before, in the same general area. He was dressed in rags, wandering in and out of traffic in the middle of Grand Avenue, totally tweaked, gesturing wildly, ranting and cursing. When cars stopped at the light, he would walk up to them, bang on the windows; drivers were trying to avoid hitting him.
Good news from BART!
I’ve complained plenty about BART doing so little to deter fare cheaters from jumping the turnstiles. But now, it appears that BART really does have a plan: Their $90 million “Next Generation Fare Gate” project.
Increased attacks on women show the changing face of crime in Oakland
This is the kind of reporting that makes my blood boil. It provides details of how many women are being brutally assaulted and robbed on Oakland city streets, often in broad daylight. It also reveals how little is done to provide these victims with any kind of justice. A police department deliberately stretched pitifully thin by the City Council is unable to handle the volume of crime. A 9-1-1 call system barely works. And still, we have racist politicians who demand that OPD be defunded. So-called “anti-violence” programs that are nothing more than an ability to reward political allies with taxpayer money.
