You may not have been aware of it, but yesterday, in El Salvador, Nayib Bukele was re-elected president in a victory he described as “the biggest difference between first place and second place in the history" of democratic presidential elections anywhere.

Those advocating for reparations need to explain why such large majorities of Californians and Americans strongly oppose reparations, especially in the form of direct cash payments.

I’ve long said that disparities by race or ethnicity in police stops and imprisonments are due solely to the fact that some demographic groups commit crimes more than others.

My friend and colleague Jack Saunders gave me a book, “Hella Town: Oakland’s History of Development and Disruption.”  The author, Mitchell Schwarzer, is professor of Architectural and Urban History at California College of the Arts (where coincidentally I used to work).

She pretends to believe the Recall is a loser. But then, why is she fighting it so hard? Near as I can tell, her social media is pretty much 100% anti-Recall propagandizing. It must be sucking up huge amounts of her time and energy. When does she have time for DA’ing? But then again, she’s not really a D.A., she’s a criminal defense lawyer.
