Bernie Sanders has a creative idea: to tax AI profits for the benefit of the American people, sending each taxpayer at least $1,000 a year as their share of the dividend. It’s an interesting thought, and I’d like to hear more of the details.

As the Trump regime become more and more corrupt, the farce is playing out in a smaller way here in Oakland. Never mind that the two sides are seemingly ideologically opposite, red versus blue: they’re engaging in precisely the same sort of lawless, self-serving behavior.

I do not think there has ever been a more cynical document produced by any Oakland government than the official Agenda for last Friday’s City Council meeting. It was written by the city’s Director of Finance, Bradley Johnson, to Elizabeth Lake, Acting City Administrator (after the permanent City Administrator, Jestin Johnson, stepped down in scandal). But this is not any ordinary intra-office memo. No, it was a carefully-choreographed pas de deux designed to give the City Council political cover for what they did on Friday: which was to cancel the results of an election, in order to get their hands on a slush fund to hand out to their union backers.

I watch a lot of City Council meetings on Oakland’s KTOP public T.V. station, and all I can say is that the hunt for revenues is now on, greater than ever.
